WAUSAU, Wis (WSAU) There were 254 teachers in the Wausau School District who had they pay docked for an unexcused absence during a protest rally in Madison. Those teachers signed an affidavit stating those absences violated the terms of their contract. Those names have also been made public until a freedom of information request from the Wausau Daily Herald. The names were published over the weekend.
School was closed during the sick-out on February 18th. More than 350 teachers didn't report to work. The district is still investigating another 46 cases involving teachers who did not sign the affidavit and were still absent.
The typical teacher will lose about $300 in pay.
The Merrill School District will also be releasing the names of their teachers who had unexcused absences last month. 90 of their teachers were also absent during a 'sick out'.
