Max Scherzer is penciled in as Detroit’s starting pitcher Sunday against the Yankees and also for the team’s home opener against the Royals a week from Friday so the right-hander has time to work on what went wrong yesterday in the Tiger’s next to last spring training game which saw them lose 14-to-9 to Baltimore.
Scherzer was pounded for 12 runs and 9 hits over two-and-third innings while his ERA in Grapefruit League play has been 10.38.
After Monday’s outing, he said he said he knows what his problems are and it should take just one session in the bullpen to find a correction.
Detroit wraps things up in Florida this afternoon with a game against the Yankees and then heads to the Big Apple for Thursday afternoon’s season opener against the Bronx Bombers.
