WSAW-TV reports the amount is higher because of mandatory late-fees when people don't pay-up promptly. A parking fine automatically increases by $10 if it isn't paid within a week. After 28 days the fine increases by $25, and the driver's license plate numbers are sent toMadison. After that, the vehicle's registration can't be renewed until the fines are paid.

The most common traffic citation: expired parking meters. It's a problem downtown, where parking is limited and police have stepped up enforcement to make sure parking spaces turn-over for shoppers.
