WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Democrats in the Senate plan a 5 p.m. vote on Wednesday to force their Republican opponents to take a stand on a budget plan that would scale back the Medicare health program for future retirees.

Polls show the measure, which passed the Republican-controlled House of Representatives last month, is unpopular with the public. It is expected to fail in the Democratic-controlled Senate.
