WAUSAU, Wis. (WSAU) – The Wausau City Council just got smaller.
The 12-member panel voted Tuesday night to cut one position because of changes in Marathon County's population that caused the county to drop one county board supervisor from the city.
Cutting one Council district would maintain an equal number of city and county representatives. It would also simplify Election Day procedures.
The Council will ask county officials to design the districts in a way that respects neighborhood borders and commercial zones. The city also wants the districts drawn in an east-west pattern to accommodate for future growth.
