The Hollywood actor began his career in showbusiness on the stand-up circuit and is regularly ranked among the top 10 greatest comics of all time.

The Shrek star has not performed live for several years and Murphy admits he is simply too lazy to put in all the hard work that goes into making sure new jokes will be a hit with the public.

He says, ""I'm not nervous. You know what it is? It takes a year-and-a-half to a year (sic) to get an act (together) and I'm more lazy than nervous.

""But it takes a year and a half of going to the (comedy) clubs (and test the material)... It's like the old days, you gotta go back to the beginning and do it like you've never did it before to get an act. And you gotta go up there and go through all of that and have people expecting it to be something funny and don't be s**t for a little while...""
