WAUSAU, Wis (WSAU) About 25 union members attended yesterday's public hearing on the 2012 Marathon County budget. They're upset over higher health insurance payments that county workers will face next year.
County administrator Brad Karger says his budget calls for no layoffs, no cuts in services, and no tax increases. That's only possible because of the change in state law that requires public employees to pay more for health care and retirement. The AFSCME members who attended yesterday's hearing say it’s unfair that all of the budget sacrifice falls on them.
The county budget will be finalized later this month.
