WAUSAU, Wis. (WSAU) – Northcentral Technical College will help train residents on how to carry a concealed weapon in Wisconsin.
The college holds the first of its six class training sessions tonight. Other courses are October 24-25, October 26-27, November 7-8, November 9-10, and November 16-17. Each class is eight hours and costs $65. You can register by calling 1-888-682-7144, extension 5861.
“I see it as an absolutely essential part,” public safety dean Bryce Kolpack said of the training requirement.
Kolpack said instructors will train students in four key areas, including firearm safety, firearm laws, potential use in the home and safe handling of firearms. NTC's classes will also put students through a state-of-the-art training simulator that will require them to respond to a real life scenario involving the potential use of a firearm in three seconds.
The NTC training class will exceed state training standards for anyone who wants to carry concealed. Governor Walker signed emergency rules Friday that require four hours of training.
The new concealed carry law takes effect November 1st.
