MILWAUKEE, Wis. (WSAU) – A federal judge has found enough evidence to make a Gillett hunter stand trial on poaching charges.

Judge James Sickel ruled during a preliminary hearing today that the case against 46-year-old John Kellogg can move forward. Online court records do not show a future court date.

Authorities say Kellogg illegally sold bear tags to two undercover agents then helped them process illegally killed bears for their meat and hide. One of the hunts happened last month near Merrill, after a state judge had revoked Kellogg’s hunting privileges for failing to tag a deer last year.

Kellogg is free on bond. But he cannot hunt or provide guide services.
