PHOENIX, AZ (WSAU) The Milwaukee Brewers ended their Spring Training yesterday with a 14-to-3 loss at Arizona. Corey Hart belted a two-run homer in his second game for the Brewers following his knee surgery a month ago. Shaun Marcum was shelled for five runs and seven hits in four-and-a-third innings. But he said he was focused on getting his pitch count up – and less on his results – after missing most of the spring with an inflamed throwing shoulder.
The Diamondbacks scored six runs in the eighth inning to make their exhibition finale a laugher. But it was no laughing matter for Brewers’ reliever Manny Parra, who failed to get any of his six batters out while giving up four runs. Willie Bloomquist fell a triple short of the cycle for Arizona, and he had three R-B-I’s. Chris Young also drove in three runs for the D-Backs.
Brewers’ manager Ron Roenicke says things are starting to come together for his team, even though their exhibition finale looked bad. Milwaukee ended its Cactus League schedule at 15-17-and-2. The Brewers will open their regular season tomorrow at Miller Park against Saint Louis. The Cardinals won their opener at Miami last night, 4-to-1.
