WAUSAU, WI (WSAU) - Two volunteers from north-central Wisconsin have arrived in Florida to prepare for possible hurricane relief. Spokesperson Lora Hainy says American Red Cross likes to pre-position relief staff before the possibility of a major event such as a hurricane.
Nancy Uerling of the Gleason area is going as a health services nurse in the area of staff wellness, and Christopher Rayburn from Wausau is serving in the field of mass care. Rayburn may be performing a number of duties, from supporting shelters to helping with the intake of victims.
For now, both volunteers will stay in Tampa on standby with other volunteers until the storm passes. Then, if needed, volunteers will be sent to specific work areas.
This is Nancy Uerling's third national deployment for the Red Cross. Rayburn is on his second national mission. They arrived in Florida yesterday afternoon.
