GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ) - Wisconsin Public Service is sending eight workers to the East Coast this weekend to help in the recovery efforts from Superstorm Sandy.
The crew members and one supervisor will head to New Jersey on Saturday. Crews will be gone for 18 days, four of those days will be traveling there and back.
"The types of things we will be doing is leak investigation, changing meters, doing re-lights," says WPS Manager of Customer Service and crew leader Linda Maleport. "We're going in to re-lighting service so customers can have their heat restored."
Many natural gas customers in the Garden State have been without service since the storm struck over a month ago.
Crews are being sent from Green Bay, Oshkosh, Stevens Point and Wausau.
"I'm so proud that we have individuals that are ready, willing and able to help because the devastation that occurred out there, I can't imagine WPS being in the same circumstance," Maleport says.
