Bow hunter kills deer in Racine Co. with chronic wasting disease

RACINE, WI (WTAQ) - A deer killed by a bow-hunter in Racine County last month tested positive for chronic wasting disease.

The state DNR says a three-and-a-half year old antlerless deer registered by the hunter on November 12th, after it was killed near Burlington.

It’s the first deer in Racine County to be tested positive for CWD – but because there were other positive findings in adjacent counties, Racine County will not get any new limits on deer baiting-and-feeding.

The DNR has been conducting tests this year on deer killed by hunters in southeast and south central Wisconsin – plus an area around Shell Lake in the northwest where a case of the fatal deer disease was reported earlier this year.

Officials say the results of those tests should be released in a week or two.
