MOSINEE, WI (WSAU) -  Cleanup continues at Wisconsin Valley Lutheran High School today, where a water line broke causing extensive damage.

Administrator Dave Beringer says about 70% of their students came to school, even though classes were cancelled and joined others in clearing out the damaged classrooms. “Today we had 49 volunteers come here to school to clear everything out of our classrooms. Desks, shelves, books, we had to clear everything out. We got it all out by noon today.”

Ceilings have fallen in, walls and carpets are soaked, and professional cleaners are working today to remove as much water as possible.

Beringer says they lost a lot of teaching materials.  “We’ve had quite a few computer towers that were sitting in water because we had standing water in the room, so they’re damaged, they’re done. Some textbooks that got wet, some teacher materials and resource books that got wet, so we can’t use them anymore.”

Beringer says their insurance adjuster has seen the damage, but there are some things insurance won’t take care of. The school is accepting donations towards the replacement of teaching materials and miscellaneous other items damaged by water.

It’s unknown what caused the water main to break Saturday or how much the repairs and cleanup will cost.
