MADISON, WI (WSAU) - The recent election brought nearly 20 new District Attorneys to office in Wisconsin. Assistant Attorney General and Director of the Criminal Litigation Unit Roy Korte says like many businesses, they have ongoing training available for prosecutors and a special session for new District Attorneys. Korte says the updates happen throughout the year. Newly elected District Attorneys participated in their special training session right after the election.
Korte says having 20 new elected prosecutors in a single election is rare, but it can be a sign of the industry. He says many prosecutors have left this specialty to make more money in a different type of law practice making it hard to retain good experienced people in the prosecution side of the law profession.
In central and north-central Wisconsin, Mike Schiek was recently sworn in as Oneida County’s prosecutor and Louis Molepske Junior will take office in Portage County soon.
