WAUSAU, WI (WSAU) - Many families struggling with finances can get some help with the heat bill. Lisa Prunty from Wisconsin Public Service says struggling households can go to their county’s assistance office or Department of Social Services to apply.
She says it’s not too late to apply for heating assistance. Prunty says households that need help should gather three months worth of income documents and go to the county to apply. She says several families are applying for heating assistance for the first time, due to a change in their job or other circumstances.
Eligibility is based on annual household income. There is also help available when your furnace breaks down to get emergency repairs or even a replacement furnace if you qualify.
Prunty says 6,200 applications for heating assistance were processed in Marathon County alone during the past year. 2-point-2 million dollars
