WAUSAU, Wis (WSAU) Residents who live along Thomas Street in Wausau were told last night the road-widening project is in a holding pattern until at least the start of next year. The project may not be eligible for any more federal funding because the city didn't follow the rules.
At an informational meeting last night, city leaders said there were going to meet with Federal Highway Administration officials today to discuss those problems, and hope to have a resolution in early 2013.
The Wausau Daily Herald reported last month that the city violated several block-grant rules when it bought up privately-owned property to widen the road. The land-owners were supposed to be told that they could appeal the purchase price, and that they were eligible for help with their relocation costs.
Others who live along Thomas Street say they're hurt because the project is in limbo. They can't make long-term plans for their property.
