SHAWANO, WI (WSAU) - The Shawano man accused of beating, stabbing, and shooting his father to death last February will likely spend the rest of his life in a mental institution.
21-year-old Joshua Johnson was sentenced yesterday in Shawano for the death of his 53-year-old father, Donald February 21st. Two doctors testified that Johnson suffers from paranoid schizophrenia, and was hearing voices from his TV instructing him to kill his dad. Circuit Judge James Habeck ordered the commitment, but Johnson could possibly get out if he is no longer deemed a threat to society. Johnson will be evaluated every six months. That chance of getting out has made several friends and family uncomfortable. Judge Habeck says he’s “not very hopeful” that Johnson will recover from his mental illness.
