Gov. Walker: "Real breakdown" in nation's mental health system

MILWAUKEE (WTAQ) - Governor Scott Walker says there’s a “real breakdown” in the nation’s mental health system, as reflected in Friday’s school murders in Newtown Connecticut.

The Republican Walker told WTMJ in Milwaukee Monday morning that one of the larger issues is how people, “get to the point where they break down like this.”

Walker would not say whether he supports new gun laws. He would only say that President Obama, “hinted at that” when he spoke to grieving residents of Newtown Sunday night.

Walker said he called Connecticut Governor Daniel Malloy on Friday, because he knew what it was like to go through two mass shooting incidents in Oak Creek and Brookfield over the last five months.

The latest mass killings involved domestic violence at Azana Spa and Salon in October – and Walker said his next state budget would consider what more can be done to track domestic abusers and those who are given restraining orders.

Walker said the Sikh Temple tragedy in Oak Creek in August was caused by, “just a demented person.”
