MADISON, WI (WSAU) - Wisconsin’s State Treasurer has an unusual problem. Kurt Schuller says they have unclaimed property worth over 400-million dollars, and it’s coming in faster than he can give it back to the rightful owners.
Schuller says most of the unclaimed property is money that hasn’t had activity on it in at least a year, like uncashed checks or savings accounts. He says most of the time, it’s money that people forgot about or never knew was theirs.
Shuller says, "New money comes in every year, and it should be an annual thing, like filing your taxes or changing the batteries in your smoke detector. You should go to your computer, to wismissingmoney.com and check your name."
