WAUSAU, Wis. (WSAU) – Wausau city leaders will meet Thursday to go over changes to the city's paratransit service now that Metro Ride has taken it over themselves.
The commission voted back in December to take over the service after getting back a much higher quote from their previous provider than they were expecting. The change keeps several part time employees on the job, and saves the city the cost of laying off employees and paying unemployment.
The commission will also discuss leasing a bus. It's not clear if this will be the heavy duty vehicles that Metro Ride was looking for to handle the Paratransit service or if it's for other usage. Transit director Greg Seubert said in December that the service would be using existing smaller buses to handle Paratransit until the more effective vehicles could be purchased.
The meeting starts at 1 pm at the Metro Ride offices.
