MARSHFIELD, Wis (WSAU) Marshfield-based Figi's will be sold now that its parent company has new ownership. Employees were told about the decision on Friday.
Figi's had been owned by Charming Shoppes of Pennsylvania since 2005. Now they're being bought out by Acena Retail Group of New York for $900-millon. That merger was completed last Thursday.Acena already owns Justice Brands and the Dress Barn chain of clothing stores. With the merger, Acena also acquires Lane Bryant and Fashion Bug. But the company says Figi's - which does mostly mail order business - is not a good fit with its other brands, and will be sold off. No buyer has been identified yet. The company says there's no timetable for a sale, and there are no plans to shut Figi's down.
The company employs 250 full-time workers in Marshfield, Stevens Point, and Neillsville. They hire nearly 3,000 seasonal workers during the holiday season.
Figi's was founded in Marshfield in 1944.
