MERRILL, Wis (WSAU) A Merrill woman was arrested Thursday after a lengthy car crash investigation. 24-year-old Ashley Baumann was taken into custody.
Police Chief Ken Neff says the State Patrol crash reconstruction experts came to the same conclusion as the Merrill Police investigation, and they took the evidence to the District Attorney this morning. Neff says, "Today, he made the official charging decisions and charged Ashley Baumann from Merrill nine different charges related to that crash."
Investigators believe Baumann was responsible for crash that killed two of the three friends riding with her June 7th. 33-year-old Jessica Hartwig and 31-year-old Misty Glisch of Merrill died in the crash. 29-year-old Jerrica Woller survived.
There are two charges of homicide by intoxicated use of a motor vehicle, two counts of homicide by use of a vehicle with a prohibited alcohol concentration, two counts of homicide by negligent operation of a vehicle. Baumann is also charged with causing great bodily harm by intoxicated use of a vehicle, causing great bodily harm by use of a vehicle with a prohibited alcohol concentration, and reckless driving causing great bodily harm.
Police Chief Ken Neff says this is one of those incidents that is hard on everyone involved. "Everybody suffers from this one, and it's an unfortunate thing that decisions were made to drive that car and drive it the way it was driven resulting in this terrible crash."
Baumann is in the Lincoln County Jail awaiting an initial court appearance Monday afternoon at 1:30 p.m.
