BELLEVUE, WI (WTAQ) - Some Wisconsin polling places had long lines even before their doors opened this morning.

Voters in the Village of Bellevue were allowed to wait inside a hallway for their polls to open – but the line still stretched out the door at the village hall before 7 a.m.

In Milwaukee, about 300 people waited in 30 degree weather for their polling place to open at 7 a.m. 50 people were waiting in St. Francis when their doors opened. 

Early signs showed a higher turnout in Madison than four years ago. But the state Government Accountability Board has predicted a somewhat smaller turnout than in 2008 – around 3 million voters, compared 3,090,000 in the last presidential contest.

Wisconsin also has a hotly-contested U.S. Senate race Tuesday along with elections for 8 U.S. House seats, 16 of the 33 state Senate seats, all 99 state Assembly seats, numerous county offices, and almost 30 Wisconsin school referendums.

All polls close at 8 p.m.
