MADISON, WI (WTAQ) - Madison Congresswoman Tammy Baldwin has made history in winning Wisconsin's open U.S. Senate seat Tuesday.
The Democrat defeated Republican Tommy Thompson.
With the win, Baldwin becomes the first openly gay candidate to win election to the Senate. She's also the first female to be elected a U.S. Senator in state history.
It also marks the first time the former governor Thompson lost a statewide election.
