WAUSAU, WI (WSAU) - Several central Wisconsin volunteers are still in New Jersey and New York in the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy. The American Red Cross deployed a total of over 58-hundred workers from every state to assist with shelter, food and water, and supplies.
About 90 percent of these workers are volunteers. Locally, ten Red Cross trainedvolunteers have given their time and talent to the relief operation: Laurel Cooper, Merrill; CharlesCrandall, Stevens Point; Joan Harper, Rhinelander; Laura Krause, Marshfield; ChristopherRayburn, Wausau; Carol Lee Saffioti-Hughes, Mountain; Johanna Schoeppl, Nekoosa; MargaretSteder, Mosinee; Ervin and Nancy Uerling, Gleason; and the Red Cross Emergency ResponseVehicle (ERV) based in central Wisconsin has been deployed since October 27
Red Cross officials expect this to be the biggest U.S. emergency response in the past five years.
