Road construction season ends

UNDATED (WSAU)   Most of Wisconsin’s major road construction is done for the year – and state officials say it won’t be a problem for deer hunters and Thanksgiving travelers. Don Greuel of the state D-O-T said an early spring and a dry summer allowed most projects to be wrapped up by now. He says there are no longer any detours from major highways – but some projects still have lane restrictions, and drivers are still urged to slow down when they see the orange barrels.

The heaviest travel is expected on Friday, when deer drivers drive to their camps for the opening of the nine-day gun season on Saturday. Other heavy traffic days are expected on the Wednesday before Thanksgiving, and the Sunday after – when both holiday travelers and hunters will be heading home.

The D-O-T says motorists can get the latest on road conditions by calling 5-1-1, or going online to 511WI-Dot-Gov.

Five people were killed in Thanksgiving weekend crashes on Wisconsin roads a year ago.
