MOSINEE, WI (WSAU) - A high-speed chase on Interstate 39 ended in the arrest and hospitalization of a man from St. Germain. 54-year-old Randy A. Young was stopped by a State Trooper near Casimir Road north of Stevens Point.
Sergeant Rob Hartson says it started with a traffic stop. Young then took off while the trooper was running his background check. The driver led troopers northbound at speeds exceeding 100 miles per hour for about ten miles. Young pulled over near milepost 173 and exited the vehicle, ignoring commands to stop. The trooper then observed Young had a self-inflicted knife wound to his neck.
Hartson says Young was taken by ambulance from the scene for treatment. "He is currently at one of the area hospitals undergoing treatment, then he will be going to the health care center.”
Young is facing charges of operating after revocation, felony fleeing an officer, and open intoxicants.
An off-duty Lincoln County communications officer and emergency medical technician stopped and assisted with Young’s injuries until the ambulance could arrive.
