GREEN BAY, WI (WSAU) The injury to corner back Sam Shields’ ankle is worse than the team thought previously. The Packers now say he is a couple of weeks away from returning to the field.
It’s looking like running back Cedric Benson may have to have surgery after sitting out six weeks. And, linebacker Clay Matthews is out for Sunday night’s game at New York against the Giants. Surgery for Benson would end his season.
Defensive end B.J. Raji was a full participant in practice yesterday, while linebacker Erik Walden was on the field.
Wide receiver Greg Jennings is coming back from an abdominal tear suffered in the first game. He says he has his speed back, but not his stamina. He wouldn’t rule himself out for the Giants game, but coach Mike McCarthy says playing Jennings is a long shot. Jennings is listed as questionable.
