VERONA, WI (WTAQ) - Until now, the only wind power in Dane County came from the politicians’ hot air on the subject.
Epic Systems of Verona is about to change that.
The maker of medical software has announced plans to install six high-tech wind turbines, each with three blades of 135-feet each.
They’ll spin on a 262-foot tower on the company’s property.
Epic Systems already has solar panels that help produce electricity – and a geo-thermal unit which heats and cools the facilities.
Company official Bruce Richards says that when the turbines go in, Epic Systems will produce about 85-percent of its own energy by 2014. He did not say how much the wind turbines will cost – but he said they would pay for themselves in about seven years, considering all the electricity they’ll produce.
