KRONENWETTER, WI (WSAU) - A semi truck split in half just after 4-o-clock Tuesday on I-39 in the Village of Kronenwetter just south of Wausau. The truck dumped cranberries on the southbound lanes near Kowalski Road. Approximately 50-thousand pounds of cranberries were in the truck. The berries were shipped from Lake Nokomis Cranberries of Eagle River.
Traffic in the southbound lanes was restricted to one lane during the clean up operation.
The truck driver thought he had a flat tire, but quickly realized his problems were much more serious.
This is the second time in five days that a cranberry truck has split and spilled the load. A similar incident occurred last Thursday on Highway 54 in the Village of Biron, just east of Wisconsin Rapids.
The Marathon County Highway Department worked to clear the cranberries and debris until just after midnight.
