KANSAS CITY, KS (WSAU) Wisconsin driver Matt Kenseth has won his second race in the Chase for the Sprint Cup. The Cambridge native beat out Martin Truex Junior yesterday, to win a caution-filled Hollywood Casino-400 on a newly-repaved surface at the Kansas Speedway.
Kenseth moved up two places to ninth in the Chase standings, with four races to go. He took the lead for good with 49 laps to go when he was the first off pit-road during a round of stops in the second-to-last caution – one of a season-high 14 during the race.
Martin Truex Junior put on a late charge, but Kenseth beat him out by a half-second. Kenseth won his third race of the year, including the season-opening Daytona-500. It was also his 24th victory in 14 years at Roush Fenway Racing, which he’ll be leaving this winter to join Joe Gibbs Racing.
Paul Menard of Eau Claire placed third yesterday, and remains 16th in the standings. Travis Kvapil of Janesville placed 17th in the race. Beloit-born Danica Patrick was 32nd. And Kelly Bires of Mauston finished 38th.
