SARATOGA, Wisc (WSAU) The D-N-R says the current plans for a mega-dairy in Saratoga do not comply with state code, and cannot be approved as-is. They've sent a letter to Wysocki Farms. The farm now has 90-days to propose revisions.
The letter came from Mary Anne Lowndes, the runoff chief of the DNR's bureau of watershed management. The letter is not a final rejection of the project. An environmental impact study likely won't be done until the spring of 2013.
The DNR hasn't ruled yet on 49 high capacity wells that were part of the project. Many neighbors are opposed, saying it will lower water tables and will impact private wells nearby.
The proposal is for 3500 cows on more than 6000 acres off highways 13 and 73. Wysocki Farms also has a lawsuit pending over a zoning change that could keep the project from being built. They say the zoning was changed specifically to block their plans.
