The armed man accused of trying to sexually assault a Wisconsin Rapids woman at gunpoint last night has turned himself in to authorities. Wisconsin Rapids Police Chief Kurt Heuer says 31-year-old suspect Matthew Lee Fosnot eluded capture when the scene on 18th Avenue was surrounded. Fosnot turned himself in to authorities in Tomah Thursday afternoon. He faces charges of armed attempted sexual assault in Wood County.
The victim's daughter called 9-1-1 to report the crime shortly after 9:00 p.m. Wednesday night. Officers cleared the scene on Wisconsin Rapids west side shortly after midnight. Heuer said all precautions were taken because they had information the suspect was anti-law enforcement and would possibly engage in a gun battle.
