Stave Confirmed Out For The Year

MADISON, WI (WSAU) Wisconsin football coach Bret Bielema confirmed this afternoon that freshman quarterback Joel Stave will most likely miss the rest of the season with a broken collarbone. Stave was injured in Saturday’s Badger overtime loss to Michigan State, when he was hit on a hard sack by William Gholston.

Bielema says the recovery time should take about eight weeks, and Stave will be ready for the start of next spring’s practices. The coach said there’s an outside chance that Stave would play in a bowl game, but it’s not likely.

The Badgers are on their bye week, which will give the coaches plenty of time to compare quarterbacks Danny O’Brien and Curt Phillips. Both will split work with the Number-One offense in this week’s practices. Wisconsin’s next game is on Saturday, November 10th at Indiana.
