MERRILL, WI (WSAU) - A recent gift to Northcentral Technical College will help purchase high-tech equipment for the Merrill Emergency Village training center. NTC Marketing and Public Relations Director Katie Felch says the Merrill Area Community Foundation donated $9,900 which will be used to get programmable robotic shooting targets, which is something no other Wisconsin officer training site has.
These targets will give law enforcement trainees very realistic training exercises, and is expected to attract users from around the country.
The Merrill Emergency Village project has forty acres and will be complete with the storefront training range and their own roadway for training police, fire, and emergency vehicle drivers for accidents, spills, pursuits, and other situations.
Felch says the Merrill project started after the tornado damaged the old campus building. She says the new campus is opening little by little, but a grand opening is planned for next spring.
