Wisconsin utility companies sending help east

by

UNDATED (WSAU) -  Wisconsin’s electrical utility companies are sending help to the east coast. There have already been mutual aid requests from east coast power companies seeking help.

Wisconsin Public Service and Alliant Energy announced they have released all line construction and tree trimming contractors to go east and assist. They are, however, keeping some crews close to home because they are monitoring the weather patterns and are concerned about possible high winds in lower Michigan and eastern Wisconsin. They say their first priority is to make sure their customers can access power and remain safe.

WPS says once Sandy settles down, they can evaluate how much extra help they can send out of the home area.

Alliant Energy has dispatched 80 employees from Interstate Power and Light Company’s Iowa territory and another 30 from Wisconsin Power and Light Company. Their linemen will be initially help customers of Central Hudson Gas and Electric. This represents Alliant Energy’s largest mutual aid response ever.
