MADISON (WRN)  Wisconsin’s first wolf hunting season may not make it until the end of the year. The state is just two weeks into its inaugural wolf hunt, and hunters have already harvested one-third of the quota established by the Department of Natural Resources. As of Monday afternoon, hunters and trappers had reported killing 38 gray wolves.

The season started October 15th and runs through February 28th, but will end once 116 wolves have been taken by license holders.

More than half of the wolves killed so far have been in the two zones covering Wisconsin’s northernmost counties.
