GRAND RAPIDS, Wis (WSAU) Grand Rapids town leaders are proposing hiring more police officers, and making their local police department a 24/7 operation. Currently the Wood County sheriffs department provides emergency services when there isn't a local officer on-duty.
The public will vote on the issue during a November 6 referendum.
The proposal would add three full-time police officers, bringing the department's total to 7. One of the officers would become a full-time investigator.
Property taxes would go up to cover the request. The town board says the increase would be about $75 a year for the owner of a typical $100,000 home.
