OTTAWA, ONT (WSAU) The U-S women’s hockey team lost a 3-to-2 shootout to Canada last night in their opening game of the World Championships in Ottawa.

Wisconsin star Brianna Decker scored the Americans’ second goal – and Madison area native Amanda Kessel had one of two assists on the play. Ex-Badger Hilary Knight scored one of the goals in the shoot-out. But it wasn’t enough, as the Americans fell to 0-and-1 in the preliminary round.

The U-S will play its next game this afternoon against Finland.
