ST. CROIX COUNTY, WI (WTAQ) - Jessica Schaffhausen returns to the witness stand Thursday in the sanity trial of her ex-husband.
Aaron Schaffhausen has admitted killing their three young girls in River Falls last summer – and a St. Croix County jury must now decide if Schaffhausen was sane at the time of the slayings.
Wednesday, Jessica testified that that her ex-husband was depressed to varying degrees ever since she met him. She told him to see a therapist, who prescribed anti-depressants that seemed to help for a time.
Jessica Schaffhausen said her marriage collapsed in 2011 after Aaron dropped of college at UW-River Falls. And he waited so long to tell her, that she had to come up with a lot of money to pay the school.
After that, she said Schaffhausen didn’t do enough to help out at home – and instead, he played video games by himself for 8 hours a day.
Earlier Wednesday, jurors saw a video of Schaffhausen breaking down and crying while being questioned by police.
If the jury finds him sane, Schaffhausen will go to prison. If not, he’ll go to a mental institution.
