MADISON, WI (WTAQ) - More people were killed in Wisconsin traffic crashes in March than in the same month a year ago.
The DOT released preliminary figures Thursday showing that 33 people died in 29 crashes last month. That’s two more deaths than the previous March, and five more than the average for the past five years.
Still, it was the 6th-safest month since World War II. And for the year as a whole, Wisconsin highway deaths are down from a year ago.
The state recorded 103 traffic fatalities from in the first three months of 2013. That’s 8 less than a year ago, but six more than the five-year average.
