Transferring credits saves students $$

WAUSAU, WI (WSAU) -  Students are finding it much easier to get a four year degree without spending four years at a university.  More and more of the degrees in demand can begin with classes at Wisconsin’s technical schools and finish at a university.

The latest example is for people seeking a degree in Social Work. Suzy Mathias from Northcentral Technical College says their latest college articulation agreement is with UW-Superior. “Two years at NTC followed by two years at UW-Superior, and the students will have their Bachelor Degree in social work.”

Mathias says students not only get their degree, but they save money on class costs and spend half the amount on far away housing and travel costs. “If you look at the credit cost at NTC, it’s about 1/4th of the price of what it would be to perhaps go to a four year institution, so students who start at NTC not only get a quality education, they get it for a reasonable amount of money.”

NTC uses their website to show students “transfer guides” to let them know what they can take locally, and then take with them to college. “We have hundreds of transfer guides on our website that show how a particular program may transfer into another program. We update these yearly, because we want to make sure they have very accurate information.”

All of Wisconsin’s technical colleges have some credit transfer offerings. You can check out NTC’s programs and transfer guides for many degrees at their website.
