Packers Sign Tight End

GREEN BAY, WI (WSAU) The Green Bay Packers have added a blocking tight end, after free-agent Matthew Mulligan agreed to a one-year contract yesterday. The fifth-year pro was waived by the Saint Louis Rams last month. He’ll reportedly make just over the veterans’ minimum of 715-thousand dollars.

Mulligan reportedly chose Green Bay over San Francisco because of a higher offer for guaranteed money. The Packers needed a true blocker at the tight end position, after losing Tom Crabtree to Tampa Bay in free agency.

The 28-year-old Mulligan played in all 16 games in each of his last two seasons with the Rams. Last year, he had career-highs with nine starts, eight catches for 84 yards, and one touchdown. And like Crabtree, Mulligan also played on special teams. He has also been a back-up long snapper. He has 50 career receptions for 144 yards and a score.
