UWGB Investigates Mens Hoops Coach

GREEN BAY, WI (WSAU) U-W Green Bay is investigating a complaint filed against the university by a former men’s basketball player. Walk-on freshman center Ryan Bross from Menomonee Falls has accused men’s coach Brian Wardle of player mistreatment. The Green Bay Press-Gazette says the complaint does not allege physical mistreatment, but no other details have been released.

Bross’s mother Brooke said her family did not want the allegation tried in the media. Chancellor Thomas Harden said the matter would be resolved quickly, but could not say when his investigation would be finished.

Rutgers recently fired its men’s basketball coach, Mike Rice, after a video was uncovered showing him physically-and-verbally abusing players. Harden said the Rutgers incident had no influence on his decision to investigate the complaint against the 33-year-old Wardle.

Bross was a red-shirt this past season, and he plans to transfer to Division-Three Concordia-Mequon. He’s one of four players to leave the Green Bay program since mid-February.

Wardle will continue his duties for now. He became the nation’s youngest Division-One coach when he joined Green Bay three years ago. Wardle’s Phoenix went 18-and-16 this past season.
