BELOIT, WI (WTAQ) - Beloit Police say they’ve ended their investigation into a mysterious envelope that caused 15 people to be sent to a hospital.
Police Captain Vince Sciame said they may never be known why three people who touched the envelope had burning sensations in their eyes and noses.
Sciame says the State Crime Lab will do more tests – but for now, at least, the investigation is closed.
A man paying a bill dropped off the envelope Wednesday morning at the Beloit Area Community Health Center.
Police said the man was very forthcoming, and he insisted he did not put anything in the envelope beside the bill and a check.
Fire Chief Brad Liggett said no substances were found when officials tested the envelope, the bill, the check, and the work area where the employees were affected.
More than 55 people were quarantined for several hours while questions lingered over the contents of the envelope.
