Statewide tornado drill set to go Friday afternoon

MADISON, WI (WSAU) -  It was supposed to happen Thursday.  It will definitely happen Friday. The mock tornado drill will take place as a test of Wisconsin’s emergency alert systems and the state’s ability to respond to an emergency.

Wisconsin’s Emergency Management Director Tod Pritchard says you will hear sirens and broadcast alerts as though it was a real tornado watch and tornado warning.  "One-o-clock, a mock tornado watch, then at 1:45 p.m., a mock tornado warning.  At that time, that's when all of the sirens go off around the state.  Radio and television stations would broadcast the National Weather Service tornado watch and warning."

This is Tornado Awareness Week. It’s a good time to review your family’s severe weather plans and also to check your emergency kits and supplies. Pritchard says there’s a lot of pointers available online.
