Proposed law would limit where sex assault suspects could live while awaiting trial

UNDATED (WRN-WSAU)   A young girl's nightmare has resulted in a bipartisan bill that would restrict where suspects in child sexual assault cases could live while they are awaiting trial.

Republican Tom Weatherston of Caledonia and Democrat Cory Mason of Racine are sponsoring "Isabella's Bill", named for the Racine girl allegedly assaulted by a neighbor. The suspect was allowed to return to his home next door on bail after being charged.

The bill would require suspects stay at least 250 feet away from the homes of their alleged victims, and could not live on an adjacent property. At a news conference on the steps of the Racine County Courthouse, Weatherston said he believes the bill will receive wide bipartisan support in the Legislature. A vote could come as early as June.
