Harley-Davidson first quarter performance beats Wall Street expectations

by

MILWAUKEE, WI (WTAQ) - Shipping more motorcycles to dealerships all over the world has boosted Harley-Davidson’s first-quarter profits.

The Wisconsin-based company reports it earned more than $224 million from January through March. That’s an increase of 30 percent compared to last year.

Restructuring led to lower operating costs and a 17% increase in shipments created the big profit improvement.

Harley’s results were better than Wall Street profit expectations. It earned 99 cents per share. A little over 54,000 motorcycles were sold during the first quarter.
