STEVENS POINT, Wis. (WSAU) - A large piece of property in Plover that was going to be a water-themed recreation and convention center will go up for sale, again. It was supposed to become the Aquaplex, and is over 420 acres. It also includes the former Tree Acres Golf Course property.
The developers lost the property after failing to build the Aquaplex and failing to pay property taxes. Portage County listed it for sale on their web site, and tried to work with West International out of Seattle, Washington on a new development, but that also fell apart. West International proposed a hotel, convention center, golf course, and several home building sites but failed to send escrow money by the deadline.
County Executive Patty Dreier says the Space and Properties Committee voted Wednesday to have county staff draft a request for proposals, so they can seek a real estate broker to market the property again. Until a broker is selected, the land remains for sale on the county’s website.
